Why Southwold?

Why are we here?
One visitor to our studio remarked that our location was 'counterintuitive'. And yes, on first sight, an agency like Spring - full of energetic, qualified people with a sense of vocation; growing fast and working with household brand names - is unlikely in a town whose two key trades are tourism and brewing. And any salesman would tell you, a coastal position halves your radius. So why are we here?

The benefits of brand association.
When Spring was but a thought, our founding partners wanted the agency to have a clear identity right from day one. How would you describe brand Southwold? Creative, independent, open minded and bright? We share those characteristics: and people's understanding of Southwold helped us to convey them. And naturally that famous Southwold brewing brand, Adnams, also has these attributes, as do the town's increasing number of luxury shops and businesses.

Pirhana Pool - or avoidance of.

We have taken care to avoid becoming one of a number of competing city centre agencies. Our location allows us to operate without concentrating too hard on what everyone else is up to, leaving us free to focus on our clients and developments in the broader industry. Funnily enough we attract staff from the main regional hubs, equally glad to escape the clamour of city life.

Talent opportunities
Southwold attracts a lot of talent. Some people pop in to say hello, some email afterwards, some shove notes on beermats through the door at the weekend. Through these approaches we have enjoyed the company of senior brand management, celebrity photographers, artists and poets, magazine editors and musicians. We have employed five full time members of staff who had simply wandered in to see what was happening. It's something to do with town's relaxed holiday mood.

  The internet and sustainable community

Erika's soapbox (well, one of them) is the redevelopment of viable communities. Before broadband and widespread internet use, companies like Spring simply couldn't exist in places like Southwold. Now they can, and the old-fashioned effect of high-tech working practises is that young families can live in small communities again, allowing them to flourish. This is something we are proud to have a role in.

Happiness
A third floor office just off Oxford Circus on a hot summer's afternoon? A brick and glass unit in an Industrial Park on a cold, wet Tuesday? Or an old Victorian print works in the middle of Southwold, a very pretty little seaside market town which, in the words of The Times, 'is experiencing a renaissance'? Our staff benefit enormously from their environment and it shows in the quality of their work.
